Top 5 Upstate High Schools
What are the top 5 high schools in the upstate? And why post-pandemic?
Ranking Schools:
There are 45 public high schools across Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson, Pickens, Oconee, Laurens and Greenwood counties. South Carolina uses a School Report Card System to gather the same data and compare schools across the state. Every school gets a numeric ranking from 1 to 100 which determines whether they are Excellent (67 or higher), Good (60 to 66), Average (51 to 59), Below Average (40 to 50) or Unsatisfactory (39 or lower).
For the purpose of this article, rankings will be based on the average report card scores of each school for the past three years. Only schools with Excellent ratings for all three years will be included in the top 5.
Post-Pandemic:
Unfortunately, data gathering was short circuited during the pandemic and both the 2019-20 and 2021-22 academic years lack overall ratings. So, for the purpose of this article, I will rely on the South Carolina Department of Education School Report Card data for academic years ending in 2022, 2023, and 2024. More detailed information about what data is included in a school’s report card rating and how that data is collected can be found by clicking here.
